snakes and ladders

How much does it suck getting an unintentional ladder in a pair of new stockings? But you keep that abused pair, don't you? In fact, you continue to hoard a collection of ripped, shredded and torn stockings that would work just as well as Charlotte's web. Because knowing that you just spent money on half an hour of fabric covered, warm legs just doesn't cut it and somehow keeping them packed away justifies that money spent. You know you wont wear it but. Because, unless it's intentional and you're going for that well-worked rock chic look, ladders in your stockings is more eek than chic.

I just stumbled across three pairs of hole-ridden stockings while trying to compile an outfit this morning and just couldn't work that rock chic look.

Plan B? Cut the feet off to make socks! You can make all kinds of length socks.
Fish nets are the worst for rips, so I made some fish net little socks too.

Result: me sporting some sheer tight socks. I love the relaxed but edgy feel they give to an outfit. Try it! It's almost too satisfying cutting up those mangy things to produce something so much more fresh.
What are you waiting for??
CHOP CHOP!!!

Patricia Ann 28 November 2009 10:38 AM

You totally Kate Lanphear'd your wrist! :P Did I just make her name a verb?

Wow.

Really love the cut-off socks. I remember when I wanted to buy a tankini when I was younger and I my Mom didn't want me to get it, I told her that all she had to do was cut the one-piece swimsuit that I was using. She laughed and told me that wouldn't work since the top would just roll up and I'd end up exposing myself to everyone.

Not sure why I thought of that but I guess its sort of the same thing that your socks are doing now except they're going down than going up... if that makes sense.

I'm so random.

Big Daddy 1 December 2009 2:55 AM

Ha i so agree, i thought it was only me who stuffed them back in the drawer once they get ripped even though you know you probably wont wear them again. Love the little socks look, i just made thigh highs out of some of mine, great minds think alike!!

joanne 1 December 2009 6:21 AM

oooh i love your sheer socks!
and it doesn't look like you cut it on your own. nice!

Re to your comment on my blog:
the nail polish is from river island!
Really nice(:
and thanks for your compliment but your rings are way nicer. haha.

by the way, you look fab in the fourth photo(:

issa 1 December 2009 8:02 AM

adore your accessories!

Yuka 1 December 2009 9:03 AM

thats a really good idea! i love the way it looks. does it slip down to your ankles though? how does it just stay up?

thesydneygirl 1 December 2009 9:46 AM

so funny! that's what i did with my stockings that got ladders (so quickly mind you) - i turned them into socks haha great minds think alike - really suits you.

oh and about the false lashes. if they touch your brow bone, you need to snip them ;) make the lashes suit you. and snip off the ends too so they don't irritate the corners of your eyes.

have a lovely day!

i have a love/hate relationship with ladders. sometimes they work as a particular aesthetic, sometimes they are just really contrived. (but i'm sure people think that of my ladders when i've only ripped them being a clutz a second before! :P)
